Wall and ceiling plastering
High-quality putty is a difficult and rather time-consuming process. How well it will be done depends on the quality of the future layer of paint and, in general, the work done on the wall or ceiling. Puttying the walls on your own is not easy, so this stage of work is best entrusted to a team of professionals.
Prior to the start of work, specialists have at hand everything that may be needed during the work. The following inventory may be useful for puttying:
  • 1
Spatulas in the amount of at least two half-metal metal (about half a meter long)
  • 2
The roller for drawing a primer
  • 3
Convenient basin for diluting the dry mixture
  • 4
A construction mixer or a nozzle for a drill, for quick and high-quality mixing of putty. Material selection
Choice of material
When choosing the type of dry mix, you should carefully read the recommendations on the package. Putty is usually used when it is necessary to smooth out small differences (up to 50 millimeters), if the differences are too large, the ceiling surface must first be plastered. However, some special putties allow you to eliminate differences of more than 50 millimeters. For wet rooms there is also a special putty, in dry rooms you can use glue-based mixtures.
Getting ready is very important
If the ceiling tiles are superimposed fairly evenly on top of each other, it will be enough for professionals to simply remove the remnants of wallpaper, glue and (or) whitewash from the ceiling. To remove whitewash or wallpaper, the surface of the ceiling must be moistened with water using a sponge. As soon as the removed layer of whitewash or wallpaper is soaked, it can be easily removed with a spatula. It is not necessary to wet large surfaces at one time, as they can dry out quickly. The best option would be if you do it all step by step, simultaneously wetting and cleaning small sections of the ceiling, for example, a meter by a meter.

In order for the putty to lie better on the surface of the ceiling, it is necessary to cover the surface with a primer mixture. The primer should be applied to the ceiling in two layers. The first is parallel to the wall with a window, the second is, as it were, perpendicular to it.

It is worth mentioning that any kind of putty lies equally on almost any surface. With a small trowel experts distribute a small amount of the construction mixture and distribute it evenly over the surface of a wide trowel. Then the mixture is applied with a wide trowel to the ceiling as thin and uniform layer as possible. The remains of the mixture from the wide spatula are removed by the narrow one back into the basin. This procedure continues until the entire ceiling has been putty in the first layer.

For the final stage of processing, use water-resistant putty, which does not get soaked by the water contained in the paint and will hold firmly to the ceiling. You can also add a water repellent primer to a regular putty to dilute the putty mixture.
